Established in 2008 and led by Crown Prince Swaleh Tibamwenda Basikania, we are dedicated to preserving the traditions, language, and values of over 900,000 Bakonzo. Our Community
The Bakonzo are Bantu-speaking people with a deep connection to the Rwenzori region, sharing cultural ties with the Banande of DR Congo. We value unity, respect for our elders, and the teachings of our ancestors, living in harmony with neighboring tribes like the Bamba, Batuku, Basongora, Banyabindi, and Batwa.

Our identity is rooted in the Lhukonzo language, our ancient traditions, and a shared history of resilience. Led by Crown Prince Swaleh Tibamwenda Basikania, the King-in-Waiting, we are a community of over 900,000, dedicated to preserving our heritage and empowering future generations.

Omwami George Basikania’s Rwenzururu Freedom Movement secures a separate Kasese District for the Bakonzo, with support from Presidents Idi Amin and Mobutu Sese Seko.
